"She: A History of Adventure" by H. Rider Haggard (1856-1925) was first published in 1886 in The Graphic Magazine, a British weekly newspaper. The story follows the adventures of Horace Holly, a young professor, and Leo Vincey to the ruins of a lost city in Africa. They are captured by the Amahagger people and encounter a mysterious queen called Hiya, "She-who-must-be-obeyed," a 2,000-year-old queen who the natives fear and who rules the African tribe.
